ISEA2024 sets out to explore human perception of timescales and challenge our understanding of past, present and future in the days of singularity and climate change – the Everywhen. The Everywhen is the concept of all time simultaneously present in a place and describes the notion that past, present and future are co-habiting any given location. Where many western cultures believe time is the constant and travels in a linear progression from now to then, First Nations Australians describe the b...

In view of the urgency felt, the SciArt project wanted to delve deeper into the cultural, philosophical and epistemological ramifications of our attitude towards Nature, feeling that such a reflection is an essential element to bring about real change. It intends to tie together the latest understanding of science, art and culture within a sound vision that liberates our concepts of nature from obsolete assumptions.

This publication is about two events on the impact of the climate crisis on the seas and the marine environments: “From the Mediterranean to the Pacific. Dialogues across the seas” (in Cervia, Italy) and “The ocean that keeps us apart also joins us: charting knowledge and practice in the Anthropocene” (at ISEA 2020 “Why Sentience?” in Montreal).
We believe this will be East Asia’s first conference on art and ecology. Our hope is that this conference will bring together researchers and practitioners working in the intersections of art, ecology, indigeneity, geopolitics, and STS (science and technology studies) to build a cross-regional network of sustainable collaboration.
Through the CMCC Climate Change Communication Award “Rebecca Ballestra”, the CMCC Foundation is awarding the best communication initiatives that spread awareness on climate change through education, advocacy, media production and social engagement activities.
The Anthropocene imposes a reflection about the time span of the human species and cultures in contrast to that of the individuals, requires a vision extended to a remote future that should be governed knowing that people will not be part of it. This implies a cognitive leap, a different consideration of humanity and its relationship with the “non human” and the environment, intended as a complex dynamic intercourse, towards a further level of awareness in a new pact with the existing. In the An...

Agents for Change | Facing the Anthropocene presents artworks by women media artists working at the intersection of science, technology and art, with a focus on ecological change — the greatest danger of our time. Responding to the global recognition of the importance of the creative voices and activism of women artists, this unique exhibition demonstrates progress towards improving gender representation in the arts.
The sixth extinction may well claim us; considering what our species has done to the rest of life, we may deserve to go extinct, sooner rather than later. But I hope that we survive. [...] Much of our habitat seems likely to be lost. However, if we survive there will be song and dance, stories and drawings. These are what human beings have always done best. One way or another we will have a new culture, genuinely new. Many new cultures may arise, some, perhaps most, beyond imagining today.
We aim to contribute to shaping a new, more sustainable future, with positive and constructive messages on how human-kind can co-exist with nature in a changed environment and how we can transform climate change in a new wave of opportunity for all. We shape our messages with the contribution of economists, managers, environmental activists, corporate entities at the forefront of environmental innovation, but also artists, whose special sensibility and absence of boundaries can help breaking ba...

Climate Leviathan is an essential book. I recommend it to anyone concerned about the future. However, it would have been an even better book if it were less nostalgic for lost certainties of the left. That would have made its panorama of the future even darker, but simultaneously may have revealed more than four political possibilities.
Balance-Unbalance 2018 conference
September 20/21
We would like to invite you to join us at the Balance-Unbalance (BunB) conference, an annual International Conference designed around art and design as catalysts to explore intersections between nature, science, technology and society. Every year, the focus is on one or more major current challenges surrounding the ecological crisis and discipline-transcending cooperation. BunB 2018 will be hosted September 20th and 21st 2018 by The Patchin...
The Balance-Unbalance conference brings together artists, designers, scientists, economists, philosophers, politicians, policymakers, sociologists, entrepreneurs and technologists from the world, based on the conviction that greater ecological awareness can be created through joint efforts.
This call for proposals seeks to support initiatives from Africa, Latin America, Asia, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe that enable local communities as well as global institutions to engage with cultural changes caused by anticipated as well as present changes of nature and our environment through contemporary artistic and cultural interventions.
The exhibition Eco-Visionaries is dedicated to the topic of ecological change and presents artistic responses to current challenges. It investigates new media, technologies and techno-scientific methods in the arts and their significance for the perception and awareness of the “ecological.”
