WordCircuits is pleased to announce the publication of a set of new, original critical essays on electronic literature:
E-LIT UP CLOSE
http://wordcircuits.com/comment/umd/
These seven short essays by students from Matthew Kirschenbaum’s graduate course at the University of Maryland, College Park eschew general musings on the nature of electronic textuality and instead attempt detailed close readings that treat seriosuly individual instances of electronic literature as _literary_ creations. They include accomplished new readings of work by Scott Rettberg, mez, and geniwate, among others. Word Circuits hopes that these texts might lay the groundwork for an evolving critical archive featuring similar contributions from other new media and electronic literature courses around the world.
Word Circuits also offers other essays and reviews, as well as hypertext and Flash pieces by Milorad Pavic, Stephanie Strickland, Deena Larsen, Rob Swigart, Bill Bly, Peter Howard, Komninos Zervos, and Jackie Craven.
