At the 43rd BITEF, Belgrade International Theatre Festival, the Croatian theatre and intermedia group “Shadow Casters / Bacaci Sjenki” has won Special Jury Award for their performance “Vacation From History (Process_City 01)”. The jury members Patrice Pavis (president), renowned French theatrologist and theoretician, Oliver Frljic, Croatian theatre director, Maja Pelevic, Serbian playwright, Roland Schimmelpfennig, German playwright and Vladimir Aleksic, Serbian-Italian actor and performer, have reached their decision arguing that “the performance questions the classical position of the spectator. It plays with the limits of the perceptibility and constitutes sensual enrichment for the spectator, changing thus the perception by the use of intimate space.”
This is the second time that “Shadow Casters” have won the Special Jury Award at this world-renowned theatre festival: they have won the first award at BITEF 2007 with their performance “Ex-position (Process_City 02)”. In the history of Croatian theatre, only Kugla Theatre has won a BITEF Jury Award – also the Special Award – for the performance “Soft Ships” in 1980.
