Why New Media?
For the first time the Newcastle poetry prize is being expanded into the exciting new world of digital media. An independent section of the prize has been allocated with prize money of two thousand dollars specifically to poetry which is designed for and published in new media forms. Poetry can now include soundtracks, photographs, animations and a range of digital elements which enhance and expand the possibilities for what a poem can be and do.
In the New Media Section the prize money of $2000 has been divided between two entries. The winners are:
1. Rictus Usage by Mez Breeze
2. Central Australia by Jayne Keane
The entry Evolution by Jane Fenton-Keane received a high commendation while Excess Pixels by Ted Nielsen, Flash Buddha by Horst Kornberger and Flash Cards by Angela Cockburn all received commendations.
