The joint venture between the V2 Organization and VIROSE along with the support of “Porto 2001”, led to the first edition of Links Prize. This first edition of Links Prize was ended by the closing conferences Links/ligaçoes/Liaisons on November 4th., the conferences were held at Museu de Arte Contemporánea de Serralves (Porto, Portugal) ending with the presence of the winner of Links Prize.
More than 120 submissions from 100 individuals, groups or organizations originating from more than 30 different countries, were entered. These, on turn were evaluated by a jury consisting of 7 members: Paulo Cunha e Silva (Porto 2001 curator), Jose Braganca de Miranda and Maria Teresa Cruz (Conference curators), Steven Shaviro (invited speaker), Miguel Leal and Fernando José Pereira (VIROSE), and AnneNigten (V_2 Organisation).
The jury pre-selected 58 projects as valid entries for the competition, deciding to attribute the Links Prize 01 to the Project Central City, by Stanza. The runner-ups were No-content.org by Brian Mackern; Them by Dane; h|u|m|b|o|t by Phlilip Pocock; Slampoetrypictures by Slampoetrypictures and Selbst-Los/Self-Less by Wolf Kahlen.
All selected projects can be found at
We would like to thank everyone who took place in contributing for the success of this initiative, particularly to everyone who submitted their projects to Links, thus making it possible to put together an impressive array of heterogenic artistic pieces onto the internet around one theme. Hopefully this initiative has served the purpose of opening up the means of communication between the various communities and individuals that act in these territories.
In 2002 we expect to repeat Links Prize as a larger iniciative.
